Junior Year Checklist

  • Junior year grades are very important. Keep your grades up!
  • Take the PSAT in October if you are interested in the Governor’s Honors Program (GHP) and/or National Merit Scholarship recognition. (Juniors must stop by Guidance the 1st week in Oct. to register.)
  • Plan when you will take the SAT and/or the ACT. Every junior should take the SAT or ACT at least once. See our SAT/ACT Information & Programs Page for information including test dates and links for online registration.
  • Plan to take the Mock SAT/ACT offered in Fall and Spring through ABC. See our SAT/ACT Information & Programs Page for information
  • Plan to take a prep class for SAT/ACT. See our SAT/ACT Information & Programs Page for information
  • Take SAT Subject Tests when you finish appropriate classes – if they are required by colleges you are considering. See our SAT/ACT Information & Programs Page for information including test dates and links for online registration.
  • Attend the Fall or Spring PROBE College Fair - information in Guidance.
  • Visit college websites and use resources in College Corner to help you decide on a list of possible schools. See our Links Page for links to help you search for colleges that match your interests and locate their websites.
  • Watch for visits to Wheeler by colleges you are considering. See our College Information & Programs Page for the list of upcoming vists.
  • Plan your college visits – Spring Break, long weekends, summer.
  • Get familiar now with scholarship and financial aid sources.Our College Information & Programs Page has a list of scholarships currently on file in Guidance. Go to our Links Page for more websites to help with scholarships and financial aid.
  • March is the sign-up deadline to take any AP (Advanced Placement) test. Register in Guidance and pay the appropriate fees.
  • All juniors take the GHSGT (GA High School Graduation Test) in the Spring. You MUST pass all 5 parts of the test to graduate in Georgia.
  • Consider a college summer program for high school students.View the list of Summer Programs
    made available by Guidance.
  • Be sure you do something productive over the summer – an educational program, career related internship or job and/or community service.
  • In the Fall, attend Junior/Senior Night and College Night to keep you on track for college admission and applications.
